I almost retired from dance, but became a pro.

I've seen the impossible happen. 

I didn't know what to do about food, but I studied. Hard. 

In the gym I used to be frustrated and lost but now I'm hitting goals.

Hey, I’m Lili. I’m a doctor-to-be turned professional ballerina, certified personal trainer, exercise specialist, nutrition coach, and CEO + Founder of The Barbell Ballerina. I have made it my life mission to redefine strength and athleticism for dancers across the globe. 

Promoting a powerful union of artistry and athleticism.

Why I believe in you & your dreams

Professional dancing was never in the cards for me. I was 21 years old when I realized I had been chasing the wrong dream my whole life. At the time I was a dedicated premed student with two science degrees and a soon-to-be medical school acceptance in my hands. The problem was, my heart was being pulled in another direction. I needed to dance with every fiber of my being.

The fear that haunted me at night was one day turning 80 years old and looking back on my life, wishing I had at least tried to become a professional dancer.

My dream of dancing on stages grew until I couldn’t contain it and fresh out of college, I started auditioning for companies. Merely a week or two later, the covid pandemic shut the world down. I did manage to get accepted to a professional division program where I trained rigorously for two years. While there, I was constantly dealing with repetitive injuries.

This is when I turned to the gym to get back the years I had spent studying instead of developing my strength and athleticism.

I couldn’t believe how quickly my technique improved and injuries disappeared.

Obsessed with how lifting made me perform, I became certified as a trainer and worked in a commercial gym for awhile, at the same time building my online personal training business, The Barbell Ballerina LLC. I went on to dance full-time with a professional ballet company for two years, and am currently performing as an independent artist. 

Through discipline and relentless self belief, I built my dreams.

And so can you.
